Listen up because Beyonce is speaking. In her recent interview with Elle UK, Bey had some very wise words for her followers, and in a world full of crazy expectations, we all need to take note. The superstar told the mag QUOTE “It’s not about perfection. It’s about purpose.” Yes, girl. She went on to say QUOTE “We have to care about our bodies and what we put in them…. The world will see you the way you see you, and treat you the way you treat yourself.”
And that’s a huge part of what inspires her brand, Ivy Park. The line of women’s athletic wear has been in the works for some time and Bey had this to say about the brand that will launch, in partnership with Top Shop, this month. “It's really the essence: to celebrate every woman and the body she's in while always striving to be better.” For Bey, it’s all about self-love and respect, and being a mother has really given her that much more drive to shape her daughter’s generation in a positive way. At the end of the day, she just wants happiness for Blue Ivy. She told the mag QUOTE “I think just like any mother, I just want my child to be happy and healthy and have the opportunity to realize her dreams.” Hi, Beyonce… can you adopt all of us, please?
Now, believe it or not, not everybody was singing Bey’s praises when her music video for ‘Formation’ dropped. I know… I was shocked too. But apparently, the singer got quite a bit of backlash from the public in regards to the video specifically, because they believe it heavily criticizes police. In the video, we see actual footage of New Orleans following the destruction of Hurricane Katrina and plenty of ‘Black Lives Matter’ imagery. And that’s where the hate started. But Bey is setting the record straight saying quote “anyone who perceives my message as anti-police is completely mistaken. I have so much admiration and respect for officers and the families of officers who sacrifice themselves to keep us safe. But let's be clear: I am against police brutality and injustice. Those are two separate things." Regardless of the public’s opinion towards her vid, Beyonce stands strong when it comes to her music. She released the ‘Formation’ video back in February over Superbowl Weekend and told the mag QUOTE “If celebrating my roots my roots and culture during Black History Month made anyone uncomfortable, those feelings were there long before a video and long before me. I’m proud of what we created and I’m proud to be part of a conversation that is pushing things forward in a positive way.”
As for the future, Beyonce is fully invested in creating a better tomorrow through her music. She told the mag QUOTE “I hope I can create art that helps people heal. Art that makes people feel proud of their struggle. Everyone experiences pain, but sometimes you need to be uncomfortable to transform.”
Just reading her words has empowered me, and I hope you all feel empowered too. What did you think of Beyonce’s interview with the mag?
