It’s hard to believe that Allison Janney only received her very first Oscar nomination tonight because, let’s be real, she’s a rockstar actress. And after tonight, not only is she an Oscar nominated actress, she’s now also an Oscar WINNER! Allison Janney accepted the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Tonya Harding’s bossy and abrasive mother, LaVonna Harding, in the Tonya Harding biopic, I, Tonya. And in true Allison Janney fashion, she started her acceptance speech by making everybody in the audience laugh.
She was kidding, of course! Janney went on to recognize the other incredible women who were also nominated for Best Supporting Actress, including Lady Bird’s Laurie Metcalf, who was believed to be Allison’s biggest competition in the category, before thanking her cast and crew, and then giving an extra special shout out to one of her cast members in particular. And we’re not talking about the film’s star, Margot Robbie.
YES. She recognized the bird who sat on her shoulder throughout the movie because, really, it wouldn’t be possible without him.
