This year has been extremely tough, especially in the last few months. One celebrity who knows this more than anyone is Ariana Grande.
In May, the singer was the target of a massive terrorist attack in Manchester during her concert. Over 200 people were injured and 22 were killed when a suicide bomber attacked at the end of Ariana’s set. In response, Ariana returned to the city and helped raise $23 million for the city and victims with a charity fund called One Love Manchester.
She time she is joining an all-star team to headline for A Concert for Charlottesville: An Evening of Music and Unity. The benefit concert is being spearheaded by Dave Matthews Band, a popular rock band whose roots are in Charlottesville. The band is brining artists from all genres together on Sunday, September 24th at the University of Virginia’s Scott Stadium.
Last month, white supremacists gathered at the University of Virginia campus for a Unite the Right rally that turned violent. When protestors of the rally arrived, a Nazi-sympathizer James Alex Fields Jr drove his car into the crowd, killing activist Heather Heyer. The unity concert was inspired by the city’s response to the racist actions and how they came together in support for equality and justice.
Celebs joining Ariana and Dave Matthews Band on stage is Justin Timberlake, Pharrell Williams, Chris Stapleton, The Roots and tons of other surprise guests.
The concert will be free of charge for all UVA students, but everyone is encouraged to donate money to the Concert for Charlottesville Fund that will directly help the victims of the events of August 11 and 12 and their families, first responders, and organizations devoted to the promotion of healing, unity and justice in the Charlottesville community and nationally. You can donate even if you’re not attending the concert by going to www.cacfonline.org.
We love seeing how some of the biggest celebrities are using their platforms to promote unity, love and equality and we can’t wait to see who else joins this historic concert. Are you excited for this benefit and how are you using your own voice to promote unity? Let us know in the comments below and then click here to learn more about Lady Gaga’s new documentary. I’m Sinead de Vries, thanks for tuning in.
