There seems to be some trouble in the Twittersphere as exes Dove Cameron and Ryan McCartan have just stirred up some subtle drama over song rights of their past duet.
Well… I guess not ALL Disney loves end in a fairytale…
In what we might’ve all perceived former Disney couple Dove Cameron and Ryan McCartan’s breakup to be an amicable and peaceful parting, we were slightly mistaken just yesterday when some not-so-subtle shade was thrown over the rights to their duet while they were still part of their duo group The Girl and the Dreamcatcher.
It all went down a mere 24 hours ago when the two both noticed that their duet called “Glowing in the Dark” was used during the ABC telecast in tandem with the Solar Eclipse, to which Dove first tweeted her gratitude, saying QUOTE, “def never thought a song of mine would be used as the theme for a once in a lifetime natural phenomenon #glowinginthedark #SolarEclipse17.” Shortly after, Ryan then tweeted, “So grateful our song was used on ABC in honor of such a momentous occasion! #thegirlandthedreamcatcher #glowinginthedark #SolarEclipse17.”
Although the two called off their engagement well over a year ago, the shade came rolling in after many fans noticed the different pronouns used in each of their tweets, Dove’s saying “my song” and Ryan’s saying “our song.” Some fans came to Ryan’s defense, tweeting back to him things like, “YES u said OUR.. unlike other people! Oh my god i love u and im so proud of u," and another wrote, "This is why we love you, keep in mind he said OUR song not MY song like @DoveCameron."
But one fan who was clearly team Dove, responded to Ryan’s tweet, saying, “Nah that’s doves song” to which Ryan responded back with, “Lol y'all can pretend I don't exist I get paid either way.” OOO THE SHADE… not to be confused with the shade from the eclipse… but speaking of the eclipse, we couldn’t help but laugh as one fan summed it up perfectly, saying, “The real eclipse of the day was people trying to eclipse you out of your own band.”
He’s got a point there… on the other hand, Dove doesn’t seem to be too affected by the tweet, as she’s just taken on a brand new movie role alongside Jennifer Aniston in the young adult film Dumplin. The film is based on the 2015 novel by Julie Murphy, where Jen is set to play a former beauty queen whose rebellious daughter, played by Danielle Macdonald, joins a local pageant to spite her. It’s currently unclear as to what character Dove will play, but seeing as though she had some previous experience as Amber von Tussle in the live action Hairspray, it’s safe to say this role will be a breeze!
But since that Twitter tea is still piping hot, I gotta know all your thoughts on Dove and Ryan’s song beef – do you think it was wrong for Dove to claim the song as her own, or does she have the right to call it hers?
