13 Reason’s Why is a Netflix series based off of a novel about a girl named Hannah Baker who commits suicide and leaves behind 13 tapes for people explaining to them the 13 reasons why she took her own life. Needless to say, the show is DARK. The first season received some backlash last year for its intense portrayal of rape and suicide amongst high school teens. In an interview with E!, Producer Selena Gomez spoke about the messaged conveyed saying QUOTE - "I just wanted it to come across in a way that kids would be frightened, but confused — in a way that they would talk about it because it's something that's happening all the time." Unfortunately these horrors are a frequent occurrence as well as the topics that will be tackled in the new season including drug abuse, healing after sexual assault, slut shaming, and the lasting effect of suicide on a community.
It’s clear that the cast and crew do not take the content and message of their show lightly and want to make sure viewers proceed with caution. Dylan Minette, who plays the male lead, Clay Jensen tweeted this morning to warn fans saying QUOTE - “Season 2 of 13 Reasons Why, like season 1, can be unflinching, dark and even hard to watch at times. please view with caution, or with loved ones. if you or anyone you know would like resources after watching, please go to . thank you. and finally, 13 Reasons Why season 2 is now streaming on @netflix everywhere. brace yourselves, pace yourselves (or not), and watch out for spoilers ‘round these parts before you finish. enjoy.”
