The 50 Shades of Grey movie franchise needs a new director. The full story on ClevverNews.
.
Hey guys, so the latest word is that the first movie’s director, Sam Taylor-Johnson is not returning for the sequel. In an exclusive statement to Deadline, she said QUOTE “Directing ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ has been an intense and incredible journey for which I am hugely grateful. I have Universal to thank for that. I forged close and lasting relationships with the cast, producers and crew and most especially, with Dakota and Jamie. While I will not be returning to direct the sequels, I wish nothing but success to whosoever takes on the exciting challenges of films two and three.”
.
So this info isn’t the most surprising news since there’s already been discussion on how Taylor-Johnson and the book’s author EL James didn’t see eye-to-eye while filming ’50 Shades of Grey’ – with insiders saying that James was hyper-controlling of the character portrayals, storyline and overall creative vision for the first go-around as Deadline reports in order to make sure book fans would also love the movie. And according to MTV, before Taylor-Johnson was hired on as director, some other candidates included Patty Jenkins who has directed a few episodes of Entourage and the film Monster, Bill Condon who you know from Breaking Dawn Part 1 and Part 2, Dreamgirls as well as the upcoming Beauty and the Beast, then there was Bennett Miller who was in the running, from Foxcatcher, Capote and Moneyball, as well as Steven Soderbergh whose resume goes on and on, from Behind the Candelabra and Magic Mike to Contagion and the Ocean’s Eleven franchise – so is it possible that Universal Studios will select one of these previous considerations to helm ’50 Shades Darker’ as well as ’50 Shades Freed”?? Let us know your thoughts about what qualifications you’d like to see in the director for the next movie. Personally, I think that it’s necessary for a woman to take on this project since the original POV from the author is female, the protagonist is a woman and the general audience for the project is female. It just makes sense. So leave your thoughts in the comments section below, or you can tweet me @Danawardonline – I’d love to hear who you think should take on this project.
