It's the Divergent news we all pretty much saw coming -- Allegiant is getting split into two movies.
Hey guys thank for keeping it here at Clevver News, and it is a Happy Friday indeed as it was just announced -- via the Divergent film's social media pages -- that the final book in Veronica Roth's trilogy will officially be split into two movies. Yep, they are going the same route as Harry Potter, Twilight, and The Hunger Games. The first part of the final chapter of the dystopian trilogy will be released on March 18, 2016, while the final film will hit theaters on March 24, 2017.
Dang, 2017?! That is a longgg time. Just to put it in perspective -- The Hunger Games trilogy will have been over for almost two years when the final Allegiant film comes out. Anyways, it was just a matter of time before this announcement came out -- Divergent brougt in about $117 million at the box office in its first three weeks, so obviously they're going to want to milk this as long as they can. And hey -- we're all for an extra Divergent movie if it means we get to see more of Theo James. Right? Just sayin.
While this is rather exciting news, there are bound to be some fans who are unhappy with this decision as the ending of the final book made a LOT of fans angry. We won't spoil it for you, but it caused a lot of controversy, so we'll be interested to see how the filmmakers handle it. Maybe they'll change the ending all together? Guess we'll have to wait and see! Oh and just a reminder -- the first Divergent sequel, Insurgent, hits theaters on March 20, 2015 with Red director Robert Schwentke at the helm.
