High School Musical: Where Are They Now? ►►
More Celebrity News ►►
It's the moment we've waited our whole lives for! Okay, maybe not our whole lives, but a little over 14 years to be more accurate, and that pretty much feels like forever. Cory and Topanga are back at it, and we here at Clevver News are breaking down the series premiere of Girl Meets World!
The highly-anticipated Girl Meets World premiere went down on Friday, June 27th on the Disney Channel, and we finally got to see how Cor-Panga (or maybe Topang-ry?) take on parenthood with their teenage daughter, Riley. Here's the low-down on Riley Matthews, played by the adorable Rowan Blanchard: she's a bit of a good-girl (she gets that from her mom and dad), and a bit socially-awkward (definitely a trait she took from Cory!) who goes through life with her best friend Maya. Maya isn't the best influence on Riley, and loves adventure and having fun -- a la Shawn Hunter.
In the first episode, Maya convinces Riley to sneak out of the house (after Cory foiled their first attempt by being one step ahead) and they go riding the subway together by themselves. Rebels! During the adventure, we're introduced to Riley's possible love interest, Lucas, a swoon-worth boy from Texas who we know you're all already in love with.
As if things weren't complicated enough for Riley, her DAD is ALSO her teacher! Awkwarddd. Though we totally prefer Cory's laid-back teaching to the strict lessons of Mr. Feeny, Cory's rowdy students certainly don't make his job any easier. Maya organizes a no-homework walkout (another nod to Shawn!), which Riley takes part in -- even though she doesn't fully believe in it.
Ultimately, Maya's reaction to homework makes Cory realize that his daughter's best friend isn't getting the academic help she needs at home. However, we're happy to report the episode concludes with a happy ending. Come on, did you expect anything else?!
So, what exactly was the moral of the story? Don't be anybody but yourself, and make sure you always follow your heart. Aww.
Interested in following Cory, Topanga, Riley, Maya and company on their adventures through life? You can catch more episodes of Girl Meets World every Friday starting July 11th at 8:30pm EST on Disney Channel!
