We take you into the kitchen of a contemporary Indian restaurant called 1947 Eatery giving traditional flavours a modern bent, tuck into a crispy, light, dosa, a South Indian pancake stuffed with spiced potato at Ras Vatika and find a small family run takeaway- Jai Jalaram Khaman- churning out Gujarati street food classics. 1. Samosa chaat, bhel puri, lamb chops and naan at 1947 Eatery, 60 Federal Street, Auckland CBD, Auckland 1010. Open Monday to Tuesday 5:00pm to 10:00pm and Thursday to Sunday 12:00pm to 11:00pm.

2. Butter masala dosa at Ras Vatika, 596 Dominion Road, Mount Eden, Auckland 1041. Open Tuesday to Sunday 11:30am to 8:30pm.

3. Dabeli and bullet khaman at Jai Jalaram Khaman, 39 Boundary Road, Blockhouse Bay, Auckland 0600. Open Wednesday to Friday 5:00pm to 8:30pm and Saturday and Sunday 11:00am to 9:00pm.
