Jimmy Kimmel SPEAKS Out About Oscars Best Picture Mistake & The Academy Issues Apology

By now you know about that Oscars snafu on Sunday night when Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced the wrong winner for Best Picture. On his show Monday night Jimmy Kimmel addressed the epic mistake and started by saying what we were all thinking.
Jimmy went on to explain that he was sitting next to Matt Damon in the audience during La La Land’s Best Picture speech, where he was supposed to end the show. Then he saw the stage manager came out to announce they had the wrong winner, and Jimmy decided to walk up the stairs and hop on stage. That’s when Warren Beatty decided to take the mic and explain what happened.
Jimmy revealed it was Denzel Washington in the front row that shouted to Jimmy to give the director of Moonlight the microphone, so he could make an acceptance speech.
Jimmy ended by confirming there was in fact two Best Actress cards and Warren had been accidentally given one of them instead of a Best Picture card. The show’s accountants have since apologized for handing out the wrong envelope. Now, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have issued a statement saying in part, “We deeply regret the mistakes that were made during the presentation of the Best Picture category during last night’s Oscar ceremony. We apologize to the entire cast and crew of La La Land and Moonlight whose experience was profoundly altered by this error… To all involved — including our presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, the filmmakers, and our fans watching worldwide — we apologize.”
