Recreating Kathmandu's best mo:mo at HOME | Cooking NEPALI STREET FOOD | How to make Nepali momo
Chasing a Plate Cooks is all about recreating food we have eaten on our travels in our home kitchen. Today we're recreating one of Nepal's most popular foods, mo:mo. We ate the best buffalo momo at a no-frills joint in Kathmandu on our recent trip. We ate there a number of times and became addicted to the lean buffalo dumplings and creamy jhol aachar (a soup/sauce) that they served at the table with the mo:mo. In this video we try and recreate the meal we ate in Kathmandu in our home kitchen! #stayhome #streetfoodathome #nepalifood #nepalifood #momo

Make mo:mo at home (Some thoughts... Below are the ingredients we used on the day. If we were to make mo:mo again we would try and find a blender to make the jhol aachar as it was nowhere near as blended or as smooth as the one we ate at the restaurant. We'd also add more sesame seeds and perhaps grind the seeds so that the flavour was dispersed more evenly throughout the jhol aachar plus add more coriander).

For the mo:mo filling
Beef mince (we used 500g)
Chopped fresh coriander
Finely crushed and diced garlic
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp ground coriander
1/2 tsp ground chilli
1/2 tsp ground cardamom
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp mace
1/4 tsp nutmeg
Salt and pepper (szechuan pepper if you have it)
A liberal splash of oil

For the mo:mo wrappers
2 cups standard flour
3/4 cup warm water

For the jhol aachar
A few tomatoes (we used 5)
1 onion finely diced
4 smashed garlic cloves
Chopped coriander (a decent bunch)
3 tbsp sesame seeds (toasted)
1 tsp cumin seeds (toasted)
1 tsp ground toasted yellow mustard seeds (or you could use fenugreek)

The method is too long for us to include here (YouTube has a word count limit) so follow the video and if you have any questions leave us a comment ✌️

We’re Thomas and Sheena, food and travel fiends. We travel full time, hunting for the BEST local food in the world to showcase via our YouTube videos. Food is a window into a country's culture and one of the most exciting ways to get to know a place.

We're all about eating what and where the locals eat. You won't find food that's been created merely to be social media worthy on here- no rainbow bagels, gold leaf soft serves- just genuine, authentic food that tastes incredible.

From street food to mom and pop restaurants, we want to show you the best and most authentic food we find on our travels.
