Katy Perry spread some love on the Ellen show today by surprising a victim of the Pulse Nightclub shooting who said Katy’s song “Rise” helped him to heal.
If you ever needed proof that love heals all, then get those tissues out because this story will no doubt make your heart grow.
Ellen Degeneres is the queen of surprises and she kept her title going when she had Tony Marrero on the show who is a victim of the Pulse nightclub shooting who was shot multiple times in the back but has since then had a miraculous recovery. Tony told Ellen that Katy Perry’s song “Rise” really helped him throughout his recovery time and inspired him to have hope and to not give up. Well when Ellen caught wind of the fact that Katy Perry’s lyrics had such a powerful impact on Tony, she had a surprise up her sleeve that left not a single dry eye in the audience. Take a look:
The doctors who treated Tony said it was a miracle that he has been able to recover so you can only imagine the impact his story had on Katy when she found out that her lyrics played a part in his healing. But appearing on the show wasn’t the only surprise Katy had up her sleeve for Tony. She found out that he had dreams to be a filmmaker so she offered to pay for his first year of film school. Additionally, Ellen gave a 25,000 dollar check to the official GoFundMe page for the Pulse Victims courtesy of Shutterfly.
