That was a sassy 5-year-old Selena Gomez talking to her Mom on the phone about her day at school.
It looks like Selena’s Mom is sending us a message about her daughter’s independence.
Yesterday Selena Gomez’s Mom Mandy Teefay shared an adorable home video on Instagram of Selena from 1997. Selena is about five years old in the throwback clip, but is serving us a rant beyond her years. Who knew homework was so upsetting to a five-year-old?

With those pigtails and that big personality, it’s no surprise Selena ended up starring on Barney & Friends at a very young age. Now, watch Selena’s Mom asked her about how she behaved at school.

So how do we convince Selena’s Mom to release more home video clips and turn this into a series? We could watch this on repeat all day. Mandy captioned her video post, “@selenagomez talking to me on the phone when I was at work asking about her day at school. My sassy, independent, boss lady, adorable gigantic piece of my heart, first born love. Gracie is exactly like this. Diabolical. XO. My girls are born leaders. Why do they grow up? Her sweet little eyes and massive eyelashes.”
We love this rare glimpse into Selena’s childhood, but we can’t help but wonder about the timing of this post. Just two days prior, the world found out that Justin Bieber had proposed to Hailey Baldwin in the Bahamas. Naturally, the internet has been dying to know how Selena feels about the news. We can’t help but wonder: is Mandy sending us a message that her “independent, boss lady” is doing just fine? It’s no secret that Mandy wasn’t a huge fan of Selena dating Justin. PEOPLE reports that Selena became estranged from her Mom late last year when she started hanging out with Justin again following her split with The Weeknd.
