T-G-I-F People! It is finally Friday, which is my favorite day of the week, because that means we get a slew of new music. And this week, guys, we have been WELL fed by some of our favorite female artists.
What’s up, it’s Emile Ennis Jr. with Clevver news and I reluctantly had to take my headphones out for a few minutes just to tell you about all the new songs and EPs that came out overnight. Because, boy, they are good and it looks like we’ve got a little bit of a “Bop Babe Battle” going on here!
First we have to talk about Miley’s new EP, “She is Coming”.
Miley has been teasing this 6-track EP for a long time coming now. And I have to say, the wait was worth it.
In “She is Coming”, which features cameos from Mike Will Made It, Ghost Face Killah, and RuPaul, Miley talks about the different places she’s been in life -- from the influence her mother has had on her, to the influence that drugs have had on her.
At first listen, you may think that it sounds a bit like a toned down “Bangerz”, Miley’s 2013 album that catapulted her out of the world of Disney and made her a full on pop star.
But if you listen a little closer, Miley really gets into how that time of her life and the things she was doing negatively affected her.
In “D.R.E.A.M.” she says, “We’re all tryna fill the lonely. Drugs rule everything around me.”
In the last song on the EP, “The Most”, Miley talks about her relationship with new husband, Liam Hemsworth.
She sings, “Even in my darkest days, even in my lowest places, you love me the most”
I thought this was SUCH a sweet way to end this very personal collection of songs. Also an amazing ode to her hubs!
You also might remember us talking about Miley’s song CATITUDE and how it mentioned the feud between Nicki and Cardi B.
Well, Cardi now has a new song out herself.
Cardi has been talking about “Press” for what feels like forever now, and I’m so excited that it’s finally here.
It’s her first new song since “Please Me” which was a collab with Bruno Mars, and I have to say “Press” is a GREAT follow up.
In the song she gets into how the media has been a major factor in her career so far, and she remains unbothered with what people say about her.
Oh we know that cardi… you Don’t give a you know what about other people’s opinions!
Cardi has talked about the media before on Instagram live, saying “I be telling blogs not to even fucking post about me”
But now, we get a whole banger out of it.
Speaking of bangers… Camila Cabello is coming in hot with her new Mark Ronson collab!
You might remember Mark’s song with Miley, “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart”, and now he’s done it again with “Find U Again”.
I was SO excited for this song, because in my opinion, it has been FAR too long since we’ve heard new music from Camila.
She came to Twitter after the release of “Find U Again” to say this song is only the first course.
I’m really hoping we get a music video for this song, because I really imagine it to be epic.
In the breathy new single, Camila sings, “I’ll try to pass the night away with somebody new, but they don’t have a shot when I compare them to you. It’s too late. It’s too late.”
Ironically enough, these lyrics are pretty much the exact opposite of our next “Bop Babe’ Katy Perry’s new single.
In “Never Really Over”, Katy talks about a relationship rekindling after a long two years.
Did someone say ‘Orlando Bloom?’
She sings “Two years and just like that my head still takes me back. Thought it was done but I guess it’s never really over.”
Very interesting...
Katy’s relationship with actor Orlando Bloom has had it’s ups and downs, which led the two to momentarily break up in March of 2017. Juuuust about two years later on Valentine’s Day of this year, the two announced their engagement.
And now she’s sounding a bit more like old school Katy Perry. And she even has the long hair to prove it.
So many BOPS on this Friday I can’t begin to decide which one is my favorite… so that’s where you guys come in!
