It has been a tough couple weeks for Miley Cyrus, but she came out and slayed her first performance of Slide Away at the VMAs Monday night and there wasn’t a dry eye over here at Clevver.
What’s up? It’s Erin Robinson here with Clevver News and we all know that Miley and her now ex-husband Liam Hemsworth split and that he filed for divorce last week.
And we all got to know and love her song “Slide Away” which was clearly about the break up.
I mean for real, it doesn’t get more obvious than her lyrics “Move on, we’re not seventeen / I’m not who I used to be / You say that everything changed / You’re right, we’re grown now.”
And Monday night at the VMA’s we got to see her sing her new song live for the first time in a raw, emotional performance.
And let me be the first to say, this was certainly different than Miley’s 2013 VMA performance.
Someone tweeted to remind us that it’s been exactly six years since that history making performance.
They said quote, “Today marks exactly SIX YEARS ago since @mileycyrus’ controversial, yet iconic & pop culture defining, performance at the 2013 MTV VMAs. The performance received over 300K tweets a minute & went viral all across the globe. A moment in pop culture history no one will EVER forget.”
But this year’s performance couldn’t have been more different.
It was shot in black in and white with only Miley at a microphone and a string quartet accompanying her on stage.
No twerking, no scandals, just pure, touching music. Miley truly has come such a long way.
And to add to Slide Away’s ocean theme, Miley’s hair was wet and she wore a simple little black dress.
At the end of the performance her parents Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus were seen cheering their daughter on and smiling.
And people on Twitter were living for this performance.
One person said quote, “@MileyCyrus What a frikken performance! YASS!!!
