Our favorite celebrities are getting major recognition for doing some seriously good stuff this year, because we all know we needed it.
Dosomething.org has released their annual Celebs Gone Good list, in which celebrities are recognized for using their platforms to do some good by affecting social change around the world. This year’s celebrities are credited with raising awareness for mental health, education, gun violence, LGBTQ, sexual assault, hurricane/disaster relief, and the water crisis in Flint, Michigan, amongst many other incredible causes.
At the top of their list is Chance The Rapper, receving the number 1 spot for his fight to bring awareness and funding to the public school system in Chicago. The organization congratulated the rapper tweeting QUOTE “1. Congrats to the 2017 winner of ’s Celebs Gone Good, @chancetherapper! This musician launched the New Chance Arts & Literature Fund, an investment in arts programs in Chicago schools. He's also raised over $3.2 million for Chicago Public Schools.”
Following Chance is NFL player, , who protested racial injustice by kneeling during the national anthem before each football game. The protest quickly sparked conversation around the globe, bringing major awareness to the fight against racism and police brutality.
Ariana Grande is next on the list after she raised 2.6 million dollars with her One Love Manchester benefit concert, after the tragic bombing at her own Manchester concert earlier this year. All proceeds from the benefit went to the victims of the brutal attack and their families.
Our girl Riri also made the list this year. Not only did Rihanna receive the Harvard Humanitarian award, but her new Fenty beauty line includes over 40 shades of foundation, which the organization proclaims QUOTE “is a major step forward for inclusivity.” ()
Queen Bey is right behind Rihana, after she announced her Formation Scholars program, created to support and empower young women. Beyonce is also credited with providing major relief to Houston after Hurricane Harvey destroyed entire neighborhoods throughout her hometown.
Other celebs on the list include Zendaya, Shawn Mendes, and JJ Watts, for their unbelievable charity work this year, Nicki Minaj, who paid off student loan debt for dozens’ of struggling students, Lauren Jaregui, who’s open letter to Donald Trump brought awareness to immigration issues, and is a major voice in the LGBTQ community, along with Miley Cyrus, and Kesha.
