Kanye West’s MTV VMAs Speech ►►
More Celebrity News ►►
The competition was fierce at the VMAs this year, which is why everyone who walked away with a win has gotta be walking on cloud nine right now.
Drake took home a Moon Man for his iconic “Hotline Bling” video in the “Best Hip Hop Video” category, which he unfortunately couldn’t accept because according to award presenter P. Diddy, he was running late to the show due to some bad New York traffic. And I thought LA traffic was bad!
Calvin Harris was also not in attendance to collect his “Best Male Video” award for “This is What You Came For”, but he did manage to send a heartfelt video thanking his director, his fans, and of course, Rihanna.
One person he didn’t thank in his speech was the song’s writer and backup vocalist, Taylor Swift, buttt we’re gonna go ahead and assume that she wasn’t expecting a shout out for their collab anyway.
Speaking of collaborations, Fifth Harmony and Ty Dolla Sign took home the Moon Man for the Best Collaboration thanks to the success of “Work From Home”. 5H also walked away with the “Best Song of the Summer” award, which was a pretty big deal because that category had a whopping 10 nominees. Get it, girls!
And it was no surprise later on in the show that Best Video of the Year went to Beyonce for Formation. Queen Bey also took home the award for “Best Female Video” for “Hold Up”. She also won a Moon Man for this year’s newest category, “Breakthrough Long Form Video”, which we have to say kinda sounds like it was just made up so we could all bow down to the artistic genius that was her visual album, Lemonade. All in all Beyonce had a huge night thanks to Lemonade’s success and her stunning medley performance.
I mean, you know you’re number one when you get to perform basically your entire album in the middle of the show...
Of course THE award of the night went to Rihanna for the coveted Michael Jackson video Vanguard award. Riri was honored for giving us 11 years of incredible music and music videos, and she couldn’t be more deserving of the recognition. She completely SLAYED with so many unforgettable performances throughout the show, reminding us all that she truly is one of the most versatile and dynamic artists of all time. While everyone that walked away with a Moon Man can call themselves a winner, Riri walked as an official icon.
That’s what a girl from Barbados gets for all that hard work work work work work!
