Daisy Ridley, Will Smith, and Melissa McCarthy were just some of the night’s biggest winners, but they weren’t the only ones who walked away with some fancy gold popcorn.
‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ was the biggest winner of the night, taking home THREE awards total. The movie as a whole won Movie of the Year, while two of their stars, Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver, won the award for Best Breakthrough Performance and Best Villain, respectively.
Both Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool along with the Pitch Perfect 2 crew came in a close second by winning two awards each. Ryan and his movie won one for Best Comedic Performance and another for Best Fight. While Pitch Perfect 2 took home Best Ensemble Cast and Rebel Wilson and Adam Devine won Best Kiss.
Will Smith and Melissa McCarthy took home special awards, Will was given the Generation Award and Melissa was presented with the Comedic Genius Award and accepted it by crowd surfing to the stage.
‘Amy’ was named the Best Documentary and Straight Outta Compton took home the award for True Story. The cast gave a great acceptance speech for their win and during O’Shea Jackson Jr.’s time on the mic, he explained that the movie is more than just a story about the music, it also had a lot to do with the brotherhood between the characters and he left the crowd with this little piece of advice.
That kinda makes you reevaluate all the friendships and relationships you have, doesn’t it? Moving on, Leonardo DiCaprio won Best Male Performance for his role in ‘The Revenant’ and Charlize Theron was named the winner of the Best Female Performance for her role in ‘Mad Max: Fury Road.’ Chris Pratt also won his first MTV Movie Award for Jurassic World while his former Parks & Rec co-star Amy Poehler was given the Best Virtual Performance trophy for Inside Out.
That pretty much concludes all the winners of the night. So now I just have to ask, were you happy with all the winners or did you think a certain someone was snubbed?
