The AMAs celebrated an amazing year of music with a star-studded show, but only a handful of artists took home the gold at the end of the night...
One of the best things about the AMAs is that it all comes down to us dedicated fans to decide on the winners. And no one has more dedicated fans than Justin Bieber, who won the most awards of the night, including Video of the Year for ‘Sorry’, Favorite Song for ‘Love Yourself’, Favorite Album for “Purpose”, AND Favorite Male Pop Artist of the Year. And in return, he gave fans a stunning performance of his latest hit “Let Me Love You”.
With tonight’s four wins there’s no way Justin hasn’t completely run out of shelf space at this point…
And when it came down the the best collaboration of the year, Fifth Harmony and Ty Dolla Sign were genuinely surprised and thrilled to hear their names called, as evidenced by Dinah having to read their acceptance speech off her cell phone.
Ah-mazing. And in the R&B and Soul categories, Rihanna reigned Queen with wins for Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Album, AND Favorite Song for “Work”. Speaking of “Work”, Riri’s favorite collaborator Drake totally dominated the Hip Hop and Rap categories, taking home the awards for Favorite Artist, Favorite Album, and Favorite Song for “Hotline Bling”. Okay if that isn’t a sign that they need to get back together slash collaborate forever, I don’t know what is...
Other big wins went to Twenty One Pilots for Favorite Rock Duo as well as Favorite Alternative Rock Artist, and in the Favorite EDM Artist category The Chainsmokers came out on top. And when it came to the Favorite New Artist Award fans chose Zayn as the big winner, who thanked his fans along with his family for their continued support of his career.
It was no surprise that Beyonce won Tour of the Year for Formation, considering it was EVERYTHING, but when it came to the biggest win of the night for “Best Artist of the Year”, Ariana Grande’s fans made sure their favorite pop diva took home the ultimate gold. And Ari made sure her fans knew how incredibly grateful she was for their support...
If you think that’s sweet, just look how adorable Ari is when she tries to stop herself from crying towards the end of the speech...
Okay but really it’s all of us who should be grateful after Ari gave us that unbelievably sexy performance of “Side to Side” earlier in the night.
Okay guys so now I gotta know--who were you most excited to see take home an American Music Award? And who do you think got snubbed? Let me hear your thoughts in the comments and after that click here to check out Fifth Harmony’s incredible performance from the show. Thanks so much for hanging out with me on News Feed, I’m your host Sinead de Vries and I’ll see you guys next time!
