Welcome back to Clevver’s 2016 award show coverage where we’re keeping you up-to-date on all the star-studded moments you won’t want to miss this season.
Tonight’s SAG Awards were filled with a number of firsts, as Jeffrey Tambour collected his first SAG Award for male actor in a comedy series, but then Orange is the New Black star Uzo Aduba snagged her second win for female actor in a comedy series. And on that note, the ladies of Litchfield must not have it to bad seeing that the whole squad took home a SAG for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series for the second year, so keep partying it up in prison, ladies.
Outstanding performance by a female actor in a TV movie or miniseries went to Queen Latifah for her role in Bessie and Idris Elba took home the SAG in the male actor category for his role in Luther. Idris had his hands full as he also took home the award for his supporting role in the Netflix drama Beasts of No Nation, while Alicia Vikander won in the adjoining category for her supporting role in The Danish Girl.
Moving right along to those insane stunt sequences both in a motion picture and in a comedy or drama series, not too surprising that Mad Max: Fury Road once again did not go home empty handed and popular HBO series Game of Thrones also took home its second ensemble SAG.
Brie Larson better start making “room” on her shelf as she took home her first SAG Award for female actor in a leading role for her work in Room after just receiving a Golden Globe, and thank the good lords above that Mr. Revenant himself, Leonardo Dicaprio, snagged himself a SAG and a standing ovation for male actor in a leading role. Take a look:
And I’m sure all you Titanic fans melted at the hug he gave Kate Winslet upon winning his award. I’m secretly still rooting for them, but that’s a whole other story. Spotlight did not go home empty-handed tonight as the movie took home an award for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture and yet another ensemble award went to the drama series Downton Abbey.
Kevin Spacey’s work in the popular TV drama series House of Cards won him a SAG Award tonight, along with How To Get Away With Murder star Viola Davis in the adjoining category. And finally Tina Fey and Amy Poehler did the honors of presenting comedy legend Carol Burnett with the Lifetime Achievement award.
Tonight, she was praised for her 11-season run on the Carol Burnett show along with many other achievements, being the 52nd star to earn the achievement award, behind past recipients and fellow actors including Debbie Reynolds, Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore and Betty White.
And that just about wraps up our coverage of the 2016 SAG Award winners for the evening, so now it’s your turn to do the talking, let me know if you were happy, surprised, shocked, or whatever emotions you had upon hearing all of tonight’s winners, so get to talking right down here in the comments section, or you can tweet me @MiriamIsa to get the conversation going.
