2018 SAG Awards Winners Recap

The SAG awards is all about honoring the best performances by actors, actresses, and ensembles in Film and Television, and this year the competition in every single category was beyond fierce.
On the TV side, Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Limited Series went to Nicole Kidman for her work in Big Little Lies. Nicole beat out fellow Big Little Lies stars Laura Dern and Reese Witherspoon for the win, but it’s clear that those ladies have nothing but love and support for one another. It was Nicole’s first ever SAG award win, and she was visibly thrilled and humbled at the honor.
Outstanding performance by a male actor in a limited series went to Alexander Skarsgard for his work opposite Nicole Kidman in Big Little lies, so clearly those two should keep acting together because something’s definitely working.
When it came to the awards for best comedic performances in television, William H. Macy was honored for his work in Shameless, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus took home yet another award for her work in Veep. Seriously, that woman is unbeatable when it comes to acting awards in comedy.
In the TV drama categories, Claire Foy won best actress for her turn as Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown, and Sterling K. Brown took home the Actor for his work in This Is Us. Sterling made history by being the first African American male to receive the award in this category, and he gave an impassioned speech where he thanked his wife in a way that made her, and literally every person in the room and at home watching, completely melt.
I hope he gets all the awards forever because every time he gives a speech it’s the absolute best.
Speaking of This Is Us, the entire cast took home the award for best performance by an ensemble in a drama series, beating out the other amazing casts of Game of Thrones, The Crown, The Handmaid’s Tale, AND Stranger Things. Their collective reaction was of pure shock and delight, and Milo Ventimiglia gave a heartwarming and humble speech on behalf of the cast.
Last but not least in the TV categories, the best performance by an ensemble in a comedy series went to Veep. Julia unfortunately couldn’t attend the show to collect her awards because she just finished her last round of chemo for breast cancer, but she did hilariously tweet about the wins, writing QUOTE, “I wish I could have been @SAGawards tonight but have to admit it’s pretty fun to watch in my pj’s. So honored to win. So proud to be a union member. So happy for my @VeepHBO bozos for winning ensemble award. Miss being at the table with you all. How was the chicken?”
Moving on to the film categories, Sam Rockwell took home the Actor for his supporting role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, meanwhile Allison Janney won for her supporting role in I, Tonya.
Frances McDormand was honored with the award for Outstanding Performance by a leading actress, also for her incredible work in Three Billboards. It was also a big night for veteran actor Gary Oldman, who won his first Actor EVER for his leading performance as Winston Churchill in The Darkest Hour.
The Actor for outstanding performance by an ensemble went to the cast of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, and considering it also won Golden Globes for Frances McDormand, Sam Rockwell, and Best Motion Picture Drama, it’s definitely shaping up to be a huge Oscar contender.
