There was some stiff competition at the 70th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, but only one show came out on top
And no, it’s not Game of Thrones
2018 has been a pretty big year for TV, and nowhere was that more obvious than at this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards.
HBO dominated the winners’ list, as they usually do, but Netflix gave them a run for their money this year. The network and the streaming platform actually tied for the most wins, with 23 each.
Game of Thrones took home two wins for Best Drama and Best Supporting Actor for Peter Dinklage. Meanwhile, HBO’s other show, Barry, won Best Actor in a comedy series for Bill Hader and Best Supporting Actor in a comedy series for Henry Winkler.
Netflix held their own this year as well. The Crown, Black Mirror, Godless and Queer Eye all took home wins, as well as the documentary series, Wild Wild Country.
FX did pretty well this year, too. The Assassination of Gianni Versace won them Best Limited Series, Best Actor in the Limited Series for Darren Criss and Best Directing of a Limited Series for Ryan Murphy. And, after years of getting snubbed, The Americans finally won two awards: Best Writing for a Drama Series and Best Actor in a Drama for Matthew Rhys.
So basically every network has sometime to be happy about, but the most awarded show wasn’t on HBO, Netflix or FX. It was actually Amazon’s original series, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The show completely swept the comedy category, winning Best Series, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Writing AND Best Directing.
Dang, does anyone have a Prime membership I could borrow because I need to start watching this show apparently!
But what did you guys think of the show? Did you favorite series nab any awards last night? Let us know down in the comments. Thanks for watching Clevver News; I’m your host, Emile Ennis, Jr. Please click to the right to watch another new video and don't forget to subscribe to our channels.
