The Critics Choice Awards were last night and some of our fave actors and shows were recognized, but it also kind of felt like the Golden Globes 2.0.
If you missed out on the Critic’s Choice Awards last night - we’ve got you covered.
Just five days after the 75th Golden Globes, all the biggest film and TV stars gathered once again in honor of the Critic’s Choice Awards. The Critic’s Choice Awards are similar to The Golden Globes in that they both recognize actors from both movies and television by professional organizations and to be honest, the nominee lists were almost identical.
Going into the night HBO’s Big Little Lies and Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water had the most amount of nominations for their main categories with 5 and 14 respectively and each left the night winning four.
Olivia Munn hosted the award show and go straight to awarding the winners and one of the first wins of the night is the cutest and most memorable. Brooklynn Price from The Florida Project won the Best Young Actor/Actress award, going up against fan-favorite Jacob Tremblay for his role in Wonder.
In her acceptance speech, Brooklynn started crying and then said QUOTE “We should all go get ice cream after this” to her fellow nominees. Why is when she does and says that it’s cute and adorable but when do it we’re told to grow up and stop crying?
David Harbour from Stranger Things finally took home a win after being nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for both the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards and we were thrilled to see our fave cast represented on screen.
At the Critics Choice Awards we also saw Margot Robbie take home a trophy for her portrayal of Tonya Harding in I, Tonya. She lost out on the award to Saoirse Ronan at the Golden Globes and got to win alongside her on-screen mom Allison Janney who once again won for Best Supporting Actress.
While most of the actors who won at the Golden Globes also took home trophies at the Critics Choice Awards like Nicole Kidman, James Franco and Gary Oldman, we HAVE to talk about Get Out’s win.
There was major controversy when Jordan Peele’s Get Out was nominated for Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes because if you’ve seen the movie then you know there’s really nothing funny about it. The movie ended up losing to Lady Bird but it DID get recognized at the Critics Choice when it won for Best Sci-Fi/Horror Movie, which is a MUCH better category for it to be in anyway.
Award season is JUST getting started and we can’t wait to see who else gets recognized for their hard work. Are you happy with who won at the Critics Choice Awards and who do you think was snubbed? Let us know in the comments below! I’m Jackie Iadonisi, thanks for tuning in.
