The 2014 American Music Awards are officially a wrap – and it was a HUGE night for a lot of new artists.
Hey hey, you are back at Clevver’s Trophy Life where we’re breaking down all the winners from one of music’s biggest nights.
So, who were some of the artists who were victorious at the AMAs? Our girl Iggy Azalea won for Favorite Rap/Hip Hop album, and believe it or not, it was not only her first AMA, but her first award – EVER! Pretty hard to believe, right? However, she seemed truly honored to win and genuinely surprised that she was able to beat out both Drake and Eminem. Girl has been killing it this year, so she shouldn’t have been TOO surprised, right? She also won later in the night for Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Artist. No big deal!
Another newbie who won was the very soulful Sam Smith who snagged the award for Favorite Pop/Rock male, which OBVIOUSLY was very well deserved. Have you heard his voice – it’s like ANGELS serenading you! Again, Sam seemed very surprised to win, and mentioned that even though his latest album was about being lonely, winning the award made him feel anything but. Everyone together now – AWWW!
Speaking of British crooners, One Direction had quite the sweep as they won for Favorite Pop/Rock Band/Duo/Group as well as Favorite Pop/Rock album. Not too shabby, right?
Other winners include Luke Bryan for Favorite Country Male, Katy Perry for Favorite Pop/Rock Female, though she wasn’t PHYSICALLY there to accept and did a quick thank you via satellite. Favorite Alternative Artist went to Imagine Dragons and even though we’re happy for them, we’re kind of bummed Lorde was snubbed for that one! Five Seconds of Summer were also victorious winning New Artist of the Year, while Brantley Gilbert held it down for country by winning won for Favorite Country album.
As for the night’s BIGGEST award, aka Favorite Artist? One Direction beat out Beyonce , Iggy Azalea, Luke Bryan, and Katy Perry to win the prestigious honor. Oh, and we can’t forget about Taylor Swift, as she was honored with the very first ever Dick Clark Award for Excellence, which was presented by the legendary Diana Ross. We can’t think of anyone else more deserving than Taylor! Big congrats to our girl T-Swift – and everyone else who won during the 2014 AMAs!
