Riverdale's Charles Melton APOLOGIZES to Camila Mendes for Fat-Shaming Tweets

If you’re a big fan of Riverdale, you probably already know that Charles Melton’s found himself in hot water recently over some insensitive tweets that resurfaced from years ago.
The tweets, which were published back in 2012, shamed fat people for their appearance, which of course, simply doesn’t fly… especially when you go on to be part of one of the biggest television series on the air years later.
After fans uncovered the tweets, Charles apologized in a statement to Us Weekly, saying, QUOTE, I’m truly sorry for making inconsiderate comments several years ago and I apologize to anyone I hurt. What I posted and said was immature, offensive and inappropriate.” Charles went on to say how ashamed he is looking back at his behavior, and that he hopes to grow from the experience.
Charles’ apologies didn’t end there, though. His co-star Camila Mendes, who’s been very open about her struggles with body image and an eating disorder, recently told Access Hollywood that he also called her to apologize personally after it happened.
Camila said, QUOTE, “Charles called me personally to apologize. He was devastated. He felt really sorry about it and he called me personally. You know, he said, with everything that I stand for, I’m really sorry. I know Charles, I know he’s not actually a bad person.”
Camila also acknowledged that sometimes things people tweet a long time ago and they can get buried and come out to haunt them years later, which is exactly what happened with Charles. She added, QUOTE, “It sucks and I do not agree with anything he said or support those statements. I know that’s not what he is.”
