Selena Gomez Didn't Feel Validated As An Artist Until "Good For You" Hit No. 1

Nope, I’m not even kidding. If you think about it, it makes sense though seeing that although we knew the girl could sing, because well… Shas before, she was mainly recognized as a Disney star form her hit show “Wizards of Waverly Place.” Competing in the world of pop music can be tough, and even for Selena herself, she needed the validation of a number on song, for her to see in herself what we all do, and that’s a full blown artist.
Of course the song that captivated the number one slot was her track “Good For You” featuring none other than ASAP Rocky, which lasted for TWO weeks on mainstream top 40 and 1 week on hot digital songs.
“Good For You’ announced the arrival of Selena Gomez, the Woman, the artist AND a major player in the music game. No longer is she a cute Disney Star, rather a sexy woman, and if you don’t believe me, you can go revisit her recent Victoria Secret Fashion show performance, orrrr just take a look at this clip for her latest video “Hands To Myself.”
On finding her sound for the album, Selena was REALLY feeling the pressure saying QUOTE: I had put so much pressure on myself, figuring out what my album was going to be, that I was exhausted when I went in to record. That’s why you can hear cracks in my voice, but the song took on this emotion I didn’t realize I could tap into…” Hey sometimes the best things happen when you go with the flow and in this case it paid off big time!
The rest of her team wasn’t even sure if that track was right for a single, seeing that a Selena Gomez/ ASAP Rocky collab was seemingly a strange one, but after hearing the track, we’re happy they too decided it was anything but a strange combo… Not to mention that her album Revival spent a week on the Billboard hot 200.
