With the mountain of sexual assault and harassment allegations piling up against the men of Hollywood, it’s no surprise that some allegations made years ago are being dredged up again. In 1992, Dylan Farrow, Woody Allen’s daughter, accused him of molesting her when she was seven years old. Over the course of the last 25 years, Dylan has been both supported and reviled, but no charges have ever been brought against the 82 year old director, who has continuously denied the allegations. Now, many celebrities are coming forward expressing their regret at having worked with the auteur and apologizing for not listening to Dylan over the years. Many of Selena’s co-stars in the upcoming Woody Allen picture “A Rainy Day In New York” have announced that they will be donating their salaries from the project to various charities supporting victims of sexual assault and harassment.
Griffin Newman tweeted last October that he regretted joining the cast of the film, and would be donating his salary to the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network.
Rebecca Hall followed up earlier this month posting that she would be donating her salary from the film to Times Up, the legal defense fund, saying QUOTE,
“After reading and re-reading Dylan Farrow’s statements of a few days ago and going back and reading the older ones - I see, not only how complicated this matter is, but that my actions have made another woman feel silenced and dismissed. That is not something that sits easily with me in the current or indeed any moment, and I am profoundly sorry. Timothée Chalamet, who seems to be in every movie this year, announced yesterday that he, too, would be donating his salary from the film, to RAINN, Times Up and the LGBT Center in New York City.
Seeing so many celebrities denounce Woody Allen has caused fans to call for both Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez to do the same. (In case you forgot, Miley worked with Allen on an Amazon series last year.) In a recent post on Selena’s mom’s instagram, a fan requested that she make her daughters apologize for the Woody Allen film. ()
Surprising, Mandy responded, saying QUOTE “Sorry, No one can make Selena do anything she doesn’t want to. I had a long talk with her about not working with him and it didn’t click. Her team are amazing people. There is no fall person here. No one controls her. She makes all her own decisions. No matter how hard you try to advise. It falls on deaf ears.” This comment came as a big surprise to Selena’s fans as it implied that this wasn't a decision that her team had pushed her to do, which had been highly speculated by fans. Many thought that the decision had to do with her team's plan to further the star's acting career before she turned back to music.
Now, everyone is both upset with Selena for having made the choice to work with Woody Allen and with her mother for having thrown her under the bus.
Wooof, that’s a lot. Well, now I want to know what you think of all of this? Was it right of Selena’s mother to out her daughter like that or did her fans deserve to know?
