Selena Gomez looks flawless as always in her new “Kill ‘Em With Kindness” music video, but is she also sending us a secret message?
Selena’s latest cryptic tweet definitely has wondering. The singer shared a split shot of her 2014 “The Heart Wants What It Wants” music video versus the “Kill ‘Em With Kindness” vid. She captioned the pic, “This is my revival,” referencing song lyrics from and the title of her latest album.
“The Heart Wants What It Wants” is famously about Selena’s on and off relationship with Justin Bieber. In the track’s music video, Sel is shown walking down a halfway crying.
But in her new music video for “Kill ‘Em With Kindess,” Sel confidently struts toward the camera, clearly living her best life.
Taking Sel’s tweet into consideration, as well as the fact that both of these videos are in black and white, it seems like “Kill’ Em With Kindness” could be a sort of sequel to “The Heart Wants What It Wants.”
This time, Selena is shaking off all the haters and her ex-boyfriend. You can even see Sel go through an emotional transformation in the new video. While it starts with the singer looking somber posing for the camera as people fix her hair, her confidence slowly increases throughout, ending with Selena looking as powerful as ever.
The video could symbolize Selena taking control of the narrative of her life, owning her power and not caring what the media or anyone has to say about it. Yas, queen!
Selena has said that “Kill ‘Em With Kindess” is “lyrically” her “favorite song” on her last record, so it wouldn’t be too surprising if she wanted to give this music video a deeper, hidden meaning.
Selena is currently killing it on her Revival Tour, performing “Kill ‘Em With Kindness,” “Hands to Myself,” and more of her hits.
