Ronda Rousey made her first debut on Saturday Night Live over the weekend, but don’t worry, no blood, sweat or tears were involved in the making of this monologue.
And what better way to ring in her first live appearance since her loss to Holly Holm than hosting SNL, and yeah, you bet all those elephants in the room were addressed.
During her UFC-themed opening, Ronda kept her fighting spirits high as she kicked off the evening with a slight jab to herself after losing to Holly Holm, but she even congratulating her on a well-deserved win… well, sort of.
The monologue quickly escalated into a mock UFC fight with SNL’s Kenan Thompson acting as her coach, but don’t worry, Ronda had little to no brain damage and was fully capable to handle the evening’s hosting duties because EVERYTHING she needed was on cue cards.
She also poked fun at Storm Jonas happening on the east coast saying she hasn’t seen this many flakes since joining Tinder. And shortly before Selena Gomez appeared in Ronda’s monologue, SNL had to jab at her ex Justin Bieber, who made his own appearance played by Kate McKinnon.
But during the final round of the monologue, Ronda began to break out into a dance with a group of backup dancers and Selena Gomez, who took over the vocals, hitting a few of her catchy “Come and Get It” lyrics.
The two then tag-teamed one of the evening’s skits spoofing The Bachelor in a 5-minute sketch called “Bland Man” where SNL’s Taran Killam acted as new bachelor Dan, “from Chicago or Denver or something, who has blue eyes, brown hair and grey shirt.” Almost the entire group of female cast members was dressed to the nines in hopes of winning Dan’s heart, attempting to steal him away while mocking many “memorable” contestants, including the crazy one, the one who has a toe thing and the one who needs more camera time.
Selena Gomez stole Dan in the end, and apparently stole his heart only after revealing that her name was, in fact, Selena Gomez and that pretty much sealed the deal.
He might be Bland Dan, but he does have pretty good taste if we do say so ourselves. But I want to know what you guys thought about Ronda and Selena’s SNL debut, and let me know what you thought about her opening monologue, and you can do all that right down here in the comments section.
