Selena Gomez might be the 3rd most followed person on Instagram but she just DRAGGED social media through the mud! Listen up people, she’s got some valid points!
What’s up guys, its Sussan Mourad here for Clevver News and as we know, our girl Selena is never one to shy away from telling her truth, which makes us adore her even more. Although she is the 3rd most followed person on Instagram, while at the Cannes Film Festival promoting her upcoming film, “The Dead Don’t Die”, Sel kept it real by opening up about the "terrible" effect social media has had on her generation.
During the press conference, when the cast was asked what they thought was the most pressing issue when it comes to our planet, Selena started by saying QUOTE: “I think our world is going through a lot, obviously. But for my generation, specifically, social media has been terrible.” Take a look at the clip shared by USA Today:
Selena then went on to say, "They're not aware of the news or anything going on," before she added that it was dangerous for sure.
Selena is definitely talking facts and when asked what more she could do to improve the social media environment, given her large following, Selena said it’s "impossible" at this point to make it safe. But she also went on to say that she tries to be conscious when posting on Instagram, to avoid putting unnecessary pressure on her fans. Thanks Sel, she’s always so thoughtful!
She said QUOTE: "I'm very grateful I have the platform in any way, I can still share things I'm passionate about… I don't do a lot of pointless pictures. I like to be intentional with it."
She also went on to say, "I see these young girls, I'll meet them and they're just devastated dealing with bullying and not being able to have their own voice."
But even though there are several dangers that come along with social media, Selena pointed out that it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have advice for people who continue to use it. We’re listening, Sel.
Her tip? Limit your time on these apps. She said, QUOTE: “It can be great in moments, but I would be careful and allow yourself some time limits of when you should use it.”
Not only is she beautiful and talented, but also so smart.
As we know, it’s not the first time Selena has voiced her worries on the effects of social media.
During Coach's first-ever episode of their "Dream It Real" podcast last month, Selena said too much screen time on Instagram made her quote, "kind of depressed looking at these people who look beautiful and amazing, and it would just get me down a lot, so I just think taking breaks is really important."
Sel took a 3 month hiatus in late September, announcing on Instagram that she planned to "live my life present to the moment I have been given."
Touche Sel, I think a lot of us need that gentle reminder sometimes. And hearing Sel’s thoughts on how she likes to use the platform explains why we don’t see daily posts from Sel.
But now I want to hear from you guys, what do you think about Selena’s thoughts on social media? And do you have any social media tips of your own? Let me know all your thoughts in the comment section below. You can also find me on Instagram, Twitter and YouTube at Sussan_Mourad.
