Get this, Taylor swift is being sued from 2 accomplished songwriters for a song they wrote…. 16 years ago. Which means taylor was only 11 at the time.. Seems fishy. The songwriters sean hall and nathan butler are going after Taylor for her massive hit song “shake it off” for her lyrics. They two songwriters claim that 20% of shake it off is their song because of lyrics they wrote for a song called “playas gon’ play” back in 2001. Playas gon play did hit #81 on Billboard Hot 100, performed by 3LW.
The lyrics that Sean and Nathan wrote are “playas, they gonna play” “haters, they gonna hate”. That’s it, and THOSE lyrics barely take up 20% of the ORIGINAL SONG.
So it’s pretty obvious that these guys want a LOT of money. But will they get it? A rep representing taylor told TMZ “This is a ridiculous claim and nothing more than a money grab. The law is simple and clear. They do not have a case.” Sooooo maybe it’s more about publicity vs anything else.
