Taylor Swift continues her unconventional “Reputation” album release with her new cover for British Vogue. On the cover Taylor looks demure in a red Saint Laurent gown while giving the camera some serious SIDE EYE. The caption on the front of the magazine reads simply: “Taylor Remade”. And instead of an in-depth interview about her new album, Vogue let Taylor publish a poem where she reflects on lessons learned as she moves into the next chapter of her life. The poem continues the theme of “Reputation” where being happy equals removing toxic people from your life and being okay with change.
The poem is titled, “The Trick to Holding On” and reads QUOTE: “Let go of the ones who hurt you, Let go of the one you outgrow, Let go of the words they hurl your way, as you’re walking out the door. The only thing cut and dry, in this hedge-maze life, is the fact that their words will cut, but your tears will dry.” The poems goes on to mention letting go of phone numbers you know by heart and how wonderful it is to forget. Taylor admits her intuition failed her in the past, but it hasn’t killed her yet. One inspirational line reads QUOTE, “Hold on to childlike whims and moonlight swims and your blazing self-respect.” The poem ends revealing her ultimate trick reading, “The trick to holding on, was all that letting go.”
It’s not really surprising that Taylor Swift should be a stellar poem writer, given her history as a wordsmith. No matter what anyone thinks about her, the girl can write a song. And it turns out Taylor can also write cryptic thought-provoking poetry as well. What do you guys think Taylor’s poem really means?! Give us your Easter eggs down below in the comments. As always I’m your host Emile Ennis Jr thanks so much for tuning in.
