Troian Bellisario Pens Emotional Essay On Eating Disorder & Talks New Movie "Feed"

Troian’s new movie Feed was released in the United States yesterday, and it is a movie very close to the actress’s heart. Written by Troian herself, it’s a story about a girl who struggles with anorexia and this is a story that Troian herself can relate to. In an essay for Lenny Letter, the actress gets very real on how badly she treated her body saying quote, “There is a part of my brain that defies logic. Once, it completely convinced me I should live off 300 calories a day, and at some point, it told me even that was too much. That part of my brain is my disease, and there was a time when it had absolute authority over me.”
She also says that it almost killed her, but with the support of friends and family and through intense medical and mental care, she was able to come out on top.
This is why her new movie Feed, which she wrote, produced and starred in, is so important to her and so important for the world to see. Troian states about the movie quote,
“I sat down and I wrote a version of my own story. It’s not the exact events, but what I wanted to do with the film was get the audience to understand what it sounds like and what it feels like to be struggling with that illness.”
She did however admit it was hard for her to immerse herself into the character saying at one point during filming she turned to the director and said “Why am I doing this to myself? What am I doing?’ to which Director Tommy Bertelsen replied, “What if this film helps one other person to have a healthy life? That's why you're doing it.’
Well I think I speak for all of us when I say we are so glad Troian is healthy and willing and able to share her experiences with us.
