I have just recently arrived in Indonesia and wanted to try Indonesian Street Food in Jakarta. Jakarta and Indonesia has some of the best street food in the world and I was so excited to try.
First I had some Nasi Padang at the famous Rumah Makan Surya. Nasi Padang is not only excellent food but it is an excellent experience. You sit down at your table and the shop employees bring over many plates of exciting, interesting and colourful dishes. You can get everything here from meat to fish, vegetables to chillies and some excellent omelette. It really is a unique experience that I have never seen anywhere else in the world. I went for their amazing Rendang. Rendang is a traditional dish that uses Coconut Milk and Spices and has such a deep amazing taste. I also had some of their Omelette which was so thick and tasty. It was filled with Herbs and Vegetable. It was really filling. I then ended with a Chilli Vegetable dish. I do not know what it was so if you know, can you let me know? It was spicy and sour and really tasty. I paid 71,000 Rupah for all of that plus rice and Hot Tea.
The second place I went to was for some excellent Sate Padang. I got this from another famous shop, Sate Padang Ajo Ramon. This satay was unlike any I have tasted before. The satay itself was Beef which was tender and full of flavour. It was covered in a really great gravy that was thick but had a nice spice to it. This gravy was topped with Fried Onions. It was one of the best satay I have every
had.
I finished my night with a large bag of Gorengan. This is basically a term used to describe fried foods here in Jakarta. I ended up getting around about 8 or 9 different ones to try. They ranged from sweet to savoury and were all very interesting.
I ate so much all day and it was brilliant. Jakarta and Indonesia has some amazing street food and just amazing food in general.
