The 67th annual Emmy Awards are right around the corner and the full list of nominations was just released early this morning by some fellow nominees themselves.
Orange is the New Black star Uzo Aduba and So You Think You Can Dance host Cat Deeley did the honors by announcing the entire list of nominees and guys, this year’s Emmy’s is ‘bout to bring the heat!
Uzo, who snagged outstanding guest actress in a comedy at the 2014 Emmy’s and Cat, who is a 4-time Emmy nominee, took to the stage to announce who will also be nominated at the star-studded event. They kicked off the morning with the nominees for Lead actor in a drama series, going to well-known names such as Kevin Spacey for House of Cards, Jon Hamm for Mad Men, Kyle Chandler for his role in Bloodline, Bob Odenkirk in the Breaking Bad spinoff, Better Call Saul and Jeff Daniels for his performance in The Newsroom.
As for lead actress in a drama series, some new faces emereged such as the hit series Empire’s leading female Taraji P. Henson, How To Get Away With Murder’s Viola Davis, followed by Robin Wright for her performance in House of Cards, Claire Danes for Homeland and Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss.
Leading actor in a comedy series was complete with 7 nominations including a few like, newcomber Anthony Anderson for the hit series Black-ish, Friends alum Matt LeBlanc for his role in Episodes, William H. Macy in Shameless, Louis C.K. for his performance in Louie and Don Cheadle in House of Lies.
Following that list comes the hilarious leading actresses in a comedy series, which includes another Friends alumn who made a comeback this year (LITERALLY), Lisa Kudrow for her show, The Comeback, Amy Poehler in Parks and Rec, Julia Louis-Dreyfus for Veep and OF COURSE rising comedian Amy Schumer for her show Inside Amy Schumer.
As for the hit TV shows who were nominated, in outstanding drama series, we have new AMC show Better Call Saul, Downton Abbey, HBO’s hit Game of Thrones, Homeland, House of Cards, Mad Men and of course hit Netflix series Orange Is the New Black.
Comedy nominated shows as followed are 5-time Emmy winning show since it’s start in 2010, Modern Family, Parks and Rec, Louis, Silicon Valley, Amazon’s series Transparent, a first-time nominee for Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and HBO’s Veep.
And as a special surprise nearing the end of the announcement, both Uzo Aduba and Cat Deeley were ecstatic to find out they are both nominated, Uzo for supporting actress in a drama series and Cat for Outstanding reality host.
But of course a nomination list isn’t complete without some Emmy snubs… we were really surprised to learn that the smash hit musical show Empire was not nominated for outstanding drama series. As was Ellie Kemper for lead actress in a comedy series for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Gina Rodriguez for her role in Jane the Virgin was not nominated this year and as for The Mindy Project, same year, same snub. Mindy Kaling, Chris Messina and the series itself was completely overruled, as well as Darren Criss’ performance in Glee AND The CW’s The Flash. Seriously, what’s up with that, Emmy judge people?!
Regardless of the snubs and surprises, the 2015 Emmy Awards is sure to be a star-studded night as it will be hosted by first-timer Andy Samberg at LA’s Nokia Theater on September 20th on Fox so be sure to set your DVR’s friends! But before you peace out for the day, I want to know what you think about the Emmy nomination list. Is there a show you think should or even should not have been nominated?
