2014 Emmy Nominations Surprises & Snubs

The nominees for the 66th annual Prime Time Emmys were announced on Thursday and Clevver's Tropphy Life coverage of all things award shows is here to break down some of the biggest surprises and snubs.
While many of the usual suspects made the cut -- like Modern Family and Breaking Bad scoring major noms, there were also some welcome new additions such as Netflix's Orange Is the New Black -- which we're TOTALLY rooting for, by the way -- and Showtime's Masters of Sex, among many others.
So real quick, we're just going to break down some of the night's biggest nominees:
For Outstanding Drama, we have: Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Mad Men, and True Detective. While the nominees for Outstanding Comedy include Big Bang Theory, Louie, Modern Family, Orange Is the New Black, Silicon Valley, and Veep.
However, some of the biggest snubs and surprises came with the acting categories, as the Internet was collectively rooting for Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany to score a nom. Andy Samberg was also absent from the Oustanding Actor a Comedy for Brooklyn Nine Nine, which is surprising considering he won a Golden Globe for the role earlier this year. Another surprising snub was Mindy Kaling who failed to receive a nomination for her starring role on the FOX comedy, The Mindy Project. And she was on hand to announce the nominees on Thursday morning. I'm pretty bummed about that one.
Also, many were upset that shows such as Sons of Anarchy, and The Walking Dead were all snubbed receiving a total zero nominations between them.
We know it's a bummer to see some of your fave shows get the shaft, but there's just SO much great television happening these days -- it's beyond difficult to narrow it down. And just a reminder, the 66th Annual Prime Time Emmys will air on Monday August 25 with Seth Meyers taking on hosting duties. We can't wait!
