Another nomination ceremony has come and gone and like many award nomination ceremonies in the past, there were quite a few notable and deserving films and actors who were completely left off the list of Oscar nominations this year.
For example, ‘Wonder Woman,’ one of the biggest box office films of 2017 was not nominated for a single award. Shocking, right?
And what was perhaps the biggest snub of all was the fact that Tiffany Haddish – who had to wake up at the crack of dawn to announce this year’s Oscar contenders, by the way – did not get a single nomination.
James Franco was also missing from the list of nominees, but that shouldn’t be surprising to anyone. Especially since an LA Times report detailing inappropriate sexual conduct by James was published during the week of Oscars voting and we can only assume that this report hurt his chances at an Oscar nomination.
While there were a number of surprising – and some not so surprising snubs from the Academy Awards this year, there were also some nominations that definitely made a bunch of people jump for joy. ‘Get Out’ received not one but FOUR Academy Award nominations. The movie was nominated for Original Screenplay, Director, Lead Actor, and Best Picture.
Greta Gerwig also received a nomination in the Director category after being snubbed in that same category at past award shows. And surprisingly enough, Kobe Bryant also earned his first Oscar nomination for the animated short, ‘Dear Basketball.’
