LIVE FROM NEW YORK, IT’S AMERICA’S BOYFRIEND, CHRIS PRATT! The hunky star had the honor of hosting Saturday Night Live’s 40th season premiere, and he totally killed it if we do say so ourselves.
The Guardians of the Galaxy stud flexed his funny bone on the legendary sketch comedy show over the weekend, and just in case you haven’t gotten a chance to watch, we’re giving you five of the best moments from not just Chris, but the SNL season opener in general. Or hey, maybe you tuned in and just want to relive it all over again because it was THAT good.
First up, we have the sketch where Chris got to show off his rapping skills. Thanks to MC CP for busting out Eminem’s verse from “Forgot About Dre” earlier this summer, EVERYBODY knows that Chris can spit some sick beats. Pair that with some rap-inspired flirting and you have comedy GOLD, people.
Chris Pratt: TV star, blockbuster mega-actor, and…rapper? Hells yes.
And speaking of being a big ol’ movie star, the next highlight on our list was inspired by the Chris blockbuster turn in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. The basic jist of the sketch was that Marvel can do ANYTHING, and it’ll make billions of dollars, which let’s be real – it’s kind of true.
We also gotta give a shout out to Marvel’s Pam and Marvel’s Fancy Ghosts. Both movies I secretly hope actually happen. Oh, and Chris Pratt as Princess Leia? Made. My. Day.
Next up, we have a sketch that was a little more on the obscure side, but Chris made it amazing, as expected. The “Bad Boys” sketch was a play on corny 90’s sitcoms, and Chris’ character falls into a bad crowd…of pre-teens.
Classic. For our fourth highlight, we have THIS.
So this particular video game-themed sketch wasn’t our FAVE, but how could you say no to those abs?
And before we give you our final highlight, we have to give honorable mentions to Chris’ opening monologue where he ADORABLY called out his wife Anna Faris, the hilarious pet hospital sketch, and the Weekend Update debut of SNL’s newest cast member Pete Davidson.
Alright, so last but CERTAINLY not least was…Ariana Grande’s performances! Girl totally killed it by performing an acoustic version of “Break Free” and then busted out into the actual version. She was also joined by The Weeknd for their collab “Love Me Harder.” However, side note, we’re kind of bummed she only showed up in one sketch! Ari is really funny, so we feel like she was underused. Just saying.
And there you have it ladies and gents. The Internet seemed to give the premiere some mixed reviews, but overall, we we’re digging it. What about you? What sketch was your fave? Start the convo in the comments, and then click right HERE to get the FULL breakdown on Ari’s performances. And make sure to subscribe! I’m your host Dana Ward, thanks so much for checking out Clevver News. See you next time!
