Banana leaf rice is a South Indian style of eating/dish which involves a meal of rice, curries and vegetables being served on a banana leaf.
We visit Sri Ganapathi Mess with our friends Jean and Drake who reckon that Sri Ganapathi Mess does one of the best banana leaf rice in the Klang Valley.
What makes Sri Ganpathi Mess unique is that it’s a restaurant within a family home. Different rooms of the house make up the dining areas. A vegetarian banana leaf rice meals starts with a choice of parboiled rice or white rice and then 4 vegetable portions. You get a choice of curry sauces for your rice and then you can add protein dishes to your meal.
In addition to our vegetarian banana leaf rice meals we order fried squid, mutton varuval and chicken rasam (chicken soup). The fried squid is a must eat! Thin squid rings, lightly battered and fried to a chewy crisp together with lightly battered onion rings. Absolutely delicious! We loved our meal at Sri Ganapathi Mess- each element of the banana leaf rice was unique and had it’s own distinct character. The chicken rasam was full of flavour and accompanied the meal perfectly. Well worth a visit!
A huge thanks to Jean and Drake for taking us to Sri Ganapathi Mess!!
