If you're after a locals breakfast spot in Melaka for a Malaysian breakfast then Roti Canai Kayu Arang is the place!

We ate the most incredible roti cooked over charcoal at this eatery in Melaka, Malaysia. Roti is most commonly eaten at mamak or Muslim Indian eateries where it's cooked on a gas hot plate. At Roti Canai Kayu Arang, the hot plate hovers over hot charcoals. Cooking the roti this way creates a crisp flatbread which doesn't dry out nor lose its texture. It's SO GOOD! We sample:

-roti canai;
-roti tampal (roti with two fried eggs on the outside of the roti);
-roti nachos (roti covered in chicken mince, capsicum, cheese and red cabbage); and
-nasi lemak with ayam rendang.

If you're in Melaka, you must make a visit to this locals spot to eat as much charcoal cooked roti as you can possibly fit in!!

Where we ate:

Roti Canai Kayu Arang
Lot 459 kg bakar batu mukim, 75350 Bachang, Malacca, Malaysia
Open daily 7:00am to midday
Halal
N.B we got an Uber here from Melaka town. The Grab app was unable to find the location of the restaurant in its system.
