Amazing TSUKIJI FISH MARKET TUNA AUCTION Tokyo, Japan

We're in Tokyo, Japan and we visit the Tsujiki Fish Market Tuna Auction. The Tsukiji fish market is famous for its tuna auction where giant tuna are auctioned off to wholesale buyers.

The Tsukiji fish market auction commences at 6:00am but if you want to visit be prepared to make a night of it. Tokyo metro closes around midnight so if you don't want to pay for a taxi (which are expensive in Japan) you will need to catch the last train to Tsukiji and spend a few hours killing time either at a nearby manga cafe or at Jonathan's a 24 hour restaurant.

We got in line at 2:15am and by that time there were already 20 people ahead of us. Only 120 people are let in each morning and once that quota is full, that's it! Groups of 60 are let into the market, the first at 5:25am and the second after 6:00am.

No flash photography or inappropriate footwear is allowed in the market. Remember to check the Tsukiji Market calendar to make sure the market is opening. They are closed on Sundays and often on Wednesdays.

After theTsukiji Fish Market auction (which is free to attend) make sure you end your morning with a sushi breakfast. We had an amazing omakase experience at Daiwa Sushi- it cost 3780 yen/$40USD per person and whilst expensive was totally worth it!!
