In fact, she’ll tell you straight up that she’s not going to change for anybody, and that includes being open and honest about her past, and let’s be real, that’s why we love her. Cardi graces the April issue of Cosmopolitan, and you’re definitely going to want to pick up this issue because she’s laying it all out on the table, especially when it comes to her past job as a stripper. The rapper set the record straight, revealing that she refuses to let anybody keep her from talking or rapping about once being a stripper, regardless of the public’s opinion. She told the mag quote "People say, ‘Why do you always got to say that you used to be a stripper? We get it. Because y’all don’t respect me because of it, and y’all going to respect these strippers from now on. Just because somebody was a stripper don’t mean they don’t have no brain.”
And it’s not the first time Cardi’s gotten real about respecting strippers. In an interview with The Guardian, she said QUOTE “People want me to be so full of shame that I used to dance. I would never be ashamed of it. I made a lot of money, I had a good time and it showed me a lot — it made me open my eyes about how people are, how men are, about hunger and passion and ambition.”
At the end of the day, being a stripper is a job, and like many other jobs, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication and responsibility, especially when you’re just 19, like Cardi was when she first began dancing. Like Cardi once said in an interview with Vibe QUOTE “Because in every field, whether it’s dancing or something else, you gotta work hard for it.”
Gotta love her. She’s just a boss. Just check out her video for her Cosmo campaign.
Like I said, boss.
