I think we can agree that memes are basically the best part of social media... except when they’re offensive. A questionable meme appeared on Cardi B’s official Facebook page over the weekend that read, “I hope nobody see this tr---y leave my house.” The text was accompanied by a cartoon image of a guy looking through a window. According to TMZ, the man appears to be an edited version of Rolf from the show “Ed, Edd n Eddy”. The caption included several laughing emojis and a skull emoji.
Not surprisingly, fans were NOT feeling this post. Cardi was instantly under fire for posting this clearly transphobic meme. The post has since been deleted and Cardi has quickly denied any wrongdoing. Cardi took to Twitter to play defense. She wrote, “It’s come to my attention that there have been offensive posts made on what used to be my Facebook page. For the past year and a half a FORMER team member has been the only one with access to the account.”
Hold up- Cardi doesn’t even have access to her own Facebook page? The page in question definitely looks like Cardi’s account- it’s verified and has almost 6 million Likes. If Cardi doesn’t have access to this, she needs to call up a Facebook rep ASAP. But something doesn’t feel right here. There’s tons of recent posts on the page, including promotional posts that appear to have been done by Cardi or team. If her page has been hacked for the past year why wouldn’t there have been more malicious posts by now?
In addition to that sus question, Cardi has been previously called out for using a transphobic slur. In January Cardi did Periscope live chat where she explained she didn’t realize the word “tr---y” was an offensive word. Cardi dished QUOTE, “Like I didn’t know that was a word that you cannot use, especially because my trans friends use it and growing up, my parents never told me that that was a bad word.” So what do you guys believe here? Did Cardi accidentally post that meme herself? Or was that a former team member trying to stir the pot and make her look bad? Tell us your verdict on this one down in the comments!
