A lot of people were upset that Ed Sheeran won the Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance, but Liam Payne is not one of them.
He’s in love with Shape of You...literally.
When Ed Sheeran beat out Kesha, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga and Pink for Best Pop Solo Performance at the 2018 Grammys, a lot of people weren’t too happy. Not only did they say “Shape of You” wasn’t the best song of the bunch, but they were also mad that the only man in the category ended up being the winner.
But while Ed’s win ended up being a controversial one, Liam Payne, who worked with Ed to write his hit song “Strip That Down,” thinks he totally deserved the recognition.
Liam explained on Andy Cohen’s Radio show yesterday QUOTE “You can't deny sometimes when there is a great song. At the end of the day, it has to all come back to the music.”
But even though Liam says Ed deserved to take home the award, he agrees that the Me Too movement is incredibly important and women in Hollywood deserve to be recognized for the amazing work they do.
He continued QUOTE "I completely understand all of what's going on at the moment, and I think it's great that people are supporting that, but you can't deny a great pop song.”
Rita Ora joined Liam in the interview and also agreed that Ed was well deserving of the Grammy.
She added QUOTE “His album was phenomenal last year. It was massive. You can't deny it. Numbers don’t lie. Don't get me wrong, there were some amazing songs this year, and to be honest, the whole award show was tough. Anybody could have won. All the nominations were fantastic. I think Ed should have got more nominations, if you want me to be completely honest.”
Liam brings up a good point, but since he and Ed go way back we didn’t really expect him to be too critical of his win. Do you agree with Liam and think Ed deserved the Grammy? If not, who do you think should’ve won? Explain your thoughts in the comments below and then click here to relive the best moments from the 2018 Grammy Awards.
