Rita Ora was excited to release her comeback single, “Girls,” last week, but the world didn’t feel the same. Many people, including queer singers Hayley Kiyoko and Kehlani criticized the song for having lyrics about experimentation that are harmful to the bisexual community.
Rob Kardashian was one of the few celebs to show his support for the song, but now Cardi B, who is featured on it along with Bebe Rexha and Charli XCX, has also spoken out in its defense.
The rapper tweeted QUOTE “Listen to “GIRLS” by Rita Ora ft me @BebeRexha @charli_xcx .We never try to cause harm or had bad intentions with the song .I personally myself had experiences with other woman ,shiieeett (BLEEP) with a lot of woman ! I though the song was a good song and i remember my experience .”
While Cardi B stands behind “Girls,” she does admit to using offensive language toward the LGBTQ+ community in the past and apologizes for her actions.
She added QUOTE “I know i have use words before that i wasn’t aware that they are offensive to the LGBT community .I apologize for that .Not everybody knows the correct “terms “to use.I learned and i stopped using it.”
Rita Ora says “Girls” is a song about her QUOTE “personal journey” having relationships with both men and women and she never meant for anyone to be offended by it.
She explained in part in a Twitter statement QUOTE “I would never intentionally cause harm to other LGBTQ+ people or anyone. Looking forward, I hope that continuing to express myself through my art will empower my fans to feel as proud of themselves as I'm learning to feel about who I am."
