The CMA Music Awards kicked off in FULL force last night, but leave it to hosts Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley to throw some shocking shade directly toward that big white house…
Carrie Underwood couldn’t have said it better with the message to Trump that maybe next time he’ll think before he tweets.
Following a beautiful tribute and dedication to the victims in the recent shootings and tragedies, including Vegas, Sutherland Springs, Charlottesville and New York during the 51st CMA Awards, last night’s hosts Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley switched things to a much lighter note… well, if that’s what you want to call it.
They might’ve prefaced the award show with the No. 1 rule of NO mentioning politics, but Carrie and Brad also broke that same rule quicker than Carrie slashed a hole in all four of her ex’s tires. Brad kicked off the parody song, asking Carrie if it was ok to sing about specific issues in politics, like Trump’s Twitter habits for one, and you can only imagine how that went down.
Oh yeah, they went there. But the jokes didn’t stop there. Brad continued switching out the lyrics to Carrie’s infamous “Before He Cheats” smash hit, singing lyrics like, “Right now, he’s probably in his PJs, watching cable news, reaching for his cell phone. Right now, he’s probably asking Siri, how in the hell do you spell Pocahontas.”
So yeah, it’s all fun and games to watch and laugh along with… until something like this happens:
But who are we kidding – Trump probably won’t be thinking next time, or the next time, or the time after that, before he tweets. Carrie and Brad’s opening monologue caused a wave of mixed reaction among fans as some were LIVING for the tea – one fan wrote alongside GIF of Meryl Streep praising the stage, “Me watching carrie underwood and brad paisley roast trump at the #CMAAwards” and many were also shocked that country music awards would put down the republican party, saying “Wait a minute. The #CMAawards are going after Trump? I never thought I'd see the day.”
But some weren’t all that enthused with bringing politics into a night that was supposed to bring people together by way of music. This Twitter user said, “Awful cant even watch country award show without getting political Not funny Brad & Carrie”.
But above the politics, the tragedies and the loss we’ve endured over the past year, the hosts did make one important thing clear. Carrie stated that, “Tonight, we’re going to do what families do – come together, pray together. Cry together and sing together too.” Brad then chimed in by saying QUOTE, “Look the way we see it, the best way to honor our fans is to play our music, loud and proud. We love you and we will never forget you.”
Well I couldn’t have said it better myself, but right now I gotta know if all this political tea was too much for you to handle, or if it had you cracking a few laughs, so get to talking down here in the comments, and after that, click right over here to see Niall Horan take the stage with Maren Morris during last night’s CMAs. Thanks for hanging out with me here on Clevver News, I’m your host Emile Ennis Jr. and I’ll see you next time.
