Debra Messing joined the rest of Hollywood in wearing black to the Golden Globes this year in support of the “Times Up” initiative demanding gender equality and equal pay but also in protest against sexual harassment. And as you saw, Will & Grace’s Debra Messing took her role of support seriously. When E! Host Giuliana Rancic interviewed Debra asking why she was wearing black, Guiliana wasn’t ready for her answer.
And that’s how you flip the switch on the conversation. So how did Guiliana respond? She ignored the mention of former co-host Cat Sadler and said QUOTE, “Absolutely. I think that, this is really what the movement is all about, right? We have an amazing platform here.”
While Guiliana didn’t respond, Cat Sadler sure did. In a statement to Buzzfeed News Cat responded to Debra’s kind words with a statement reading, “I am immensely grateful for the outpouring of support today. Time’s Up.” In case you didn’t know, Cat Sadler left E! News unexpectedly last month after a 10 year run upon learning she made almost half of what her male co-host made. But that’s not all. Eva Longoria stood up for Cat alongside Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon in their E! interview with Ryan Seacrest:
Kudos to Ryan Seacrest for addressing the Cat mention, but we’re sure execs behind the scenes must have been FLIPPING OUT over the A-List callouts. Nicole and Reese’s Big Little Lies costar Laura Dern also chimed in saying QUOTE, “We need the powers that be and all the industries and all the networks and E! to help us with closing this pay gender gap.” Sarah Jessica Parker pressured E! on equal pay saying, “This is a conversation that as complicated as it is, it seems to be very welcomed by everybody. I know it’s affected your network.”
But the support for Cat wasn’t limited to the red carpet. Early that day Amy Schumer posted a photo of Cat on Instagram writing, “If you’re on the carpet tonight or at home post in support and ask @eentertainment what happened? We thought you would be for pay equality and say #imwithcattsad @iamcattsadler.” Looks like the ball is in E!’s court! What do you think of these celebs calling out a network in their OWN interview? Tell us below your thoughts! Thanks so much for tuning in to Clevver for award show season, I’m your host Sinead de Vries.
