Franica Raisa is one strong lady, as is her best friend, Selena Gomez. As we all know by now, last year Francia donated one of her kidneys to Selena after Selena suffered kidney failure due to her lupus. Now, in a new tell-all with Self, Francia is proudly showing off her scars and revealing the physical and emotional impact the recovery made on both her and Selena’s day to day lives.
Francia admits she didn’t know enough about kidney transplant surgeries before finding out she and Selena were a match. She had to quickly prepare herself for what was about to come, but even her social worker advised her that she didn’t really know what she was in for.
But even knowing that her recovery process would be a lot different than Sel’s, Francia admitted she always knew she would do it for her, referring to Selena as her best friend and her sister. Unfortunately, the unexpected happened and Selena had serious complications following her surgery. Francia revealed that she received a text from Sel that read QUOTE “I’m so scared I might die.” It turns out that the kidney had turned and broken an artery, so Selena was forced to return to the hospital.
That obviously led to serious emotional turmoil. Francia tells Self QUOTE “Selena and I both went through a depression.”
But as the recovery went on, their strength and determination to overcome their scars, both literally and emotionally, grew. Today, Francia can look at her scars with a smile on her face.
She even takes a moment to note her tattoo popping out, while reminding fans that no matter how in love they think they are, don’t tattoo that love on your body.
Overall, Francia’s message is powerful, yet simple. She says QUOTE “Your scars don’t define you. It’s a part of your story and it’s part of the story that makes you special and you different.”
Wow. Talk about bravery. Now it’s time for you all to weigh in with you thoughts on Francia’s interview, so drop all your thoughts in the comments below.
