Francia Raisa is on fire with a new tv show and a scar she’s proudly showing off.
If 2017 is any indicator, next year will be a huge one for actress Francia Raisa. She’s got a new show in the works which I’m dying to see- the Blackish spinoff Grownish. And also, donating her kidney to her BFF Selena Gomez has given the young starlet a new lease on life. That must be one of the reasons why she’s proud of her scar from her surgery, choosing to show it off proudly at the premiere of ABC’s Grownish dressed in impeccable taste. Colorful highwaisted slacks and a black crop top. Talk about grown. She also gave a brief update on her and Selena’s health to Us Weekly. QUOTE “We’re doing great. I’m feeling really good and I’m really happy to be here.”
Now that we know both girls have bounced back like champs from their kidney surgeries over the summer, it’s time to discuss Francia’s new show. For all you Blackish fans out there who are dying for the world premiere of Grownish, Francia plays a college student named Anna Maria Patricia Torres, a Cuban-American Republican from Miami. You guys… that’s practically me. Cuban. American. Republican family. Miami. Twins! But apparantly I have more in common with her new role than she does. According to Francia QUOTE “She grew up conservative — well, Catholic. I grew up Catholic so that side I understand, having to read the Bible, having to have a rosary, and all that stuff. Being sheltered a little bit in her house, I can totally relate to that... But on her beliefs, I’m not Cuban at all so I had to learn a lot about Cuba, which is really fun to me and really interesting.”
Francia is half Mexican and half Honduran which culturally is very different from being Caribbean and specifically Cuban. Like, we don’t eat spicy foods. And we learn to twerk at 5 while also memorizing the bible. So for Francia, this role turned into a research project. QUOTE “I can try to put a little bit of myself, but she’s so different from me. As actors, we have to do so much research… I literally got on the phone with someone and was like, ‘Teach me about what happened in Cuba.’ And I’ve learned so much, and it’s amazing. It’s basically just research, lots and lots of research, like, ‘OK, let me understand that side of the party because I’m not Republican,’ and it really opened my eyes to a lot of things.”
Girl, DM me. I’ll teach you what it’s like to be a Miami Cuban. Anyway, the Grown-ish series premiere will air on Freeform on Wednesday, January 3 at 8 p.m. It’s a date. See you all there! So are youb excited for this show? And how hot are scars? I’m totally digging Francia’s torso scar. Let me know all your thoughts below and of course, make sure to subscribe.
