A little over a year ago, we were blessed with quite possible the greatest collab of the year, one that blew through your speakers for probably months longer than it should’ve AKA “Closer” by Halsey and The Chainsmokers. Since then, the song went onto win numerous award including a few shiny pieces of hardware from iHeartRadio themselves, so naturally, Halsey, being one of this weekend’s iHeartRadio Music Festival performers, took the stage and surprised fans with a rendition of the song.
She began by warning the audience that she was about to do something fun, but what fans weren’t exactly warned about was the hefty amount of shade she threw toward her “Closer” co-artists, Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart shortly after…
Alrighty then – so whether or not you guys agree with Halsey, permission for us to plead the fifth on that one, and instead we’ll just say that both parts were equally as great. It seems that the main reason for not performing together was due to a conflict in packed schedules, so who knows – this could’ve all just been in good fun.
But this isn’t the first time an issues has gone down between Halsey and The Chainsmokers. Last year, Drew made fun of her appearance on Twitter, which led to Halsey unfollowing them. But it wasn’t long after the tweet went viral that Drew said his account was hacked, writing that saying he would never tweet anything like that about one of his friends.
There seemed to be some peace following the rift, and neither Halsey nor The Chainsmokers have spoken out about her iHeart performance, so right now, we’re just gonna go with the lighthearted joke route… but I want to know what you guys thought about Halsey’s “Closer” intro, and if you think there it was meant to be taken as a diss, so get to talking down here in the comments and as always, be sure to subscribe.
